This is the 11th Bi-annual Solidarity Conference in Ohio. The focus of this year’s conference will be on Employment. With funding being cut at state and federal levels, it is important for people with disabilities to assess their skills and see how and where they might consider employment.
Several workshops at SOLIDARITY ‘11 will focus on employment. Also, there will be a Job Fair on Wednesday, April 27, from 10:00AM-2:00PM at the Hyatt Regency, where conference attendees will be able to talk with employers first-hand about job opportunities with their companies or organizations.
Also, conference participants are encouraged to contact their state legislators to make appointments with them for Wednesday morning, April 27. If you don’t know who your legislators are, go to www.dnos.org and click on “Find Your Elected Legislators.” These legislators need to hear from you, so try to make an appointment with them or one of their staff members. On Tuesday, April 26, there will be a Workshop held entitled “Legislative Update: Getting Ready for Your Statehouse Visits.” You will want to attend that workshop to be better equipped for your legislative visit on Wednesday.

The 20th anniversary of the ADA brought historic changes in disability law and public policy. New laws, new regulations and ongoing rulemaking have inspired a renaissance in advocacy and agency enforcement and will define access and compliance for the next decade. The Department of Justice has issued new regulations for Titles II and III of the ADA, new accessibility standards and is undertaking more rule-making on web access and more. These sweeping changes touch every level of your organization.
